Jesuit Missions of Chiquitos
LA CHIQUITANÃA
This is the name given to the Ñuflo de Chávez, Velasco and Chiquitos provinces. This is where, thanks to the Spanish Jesuits, people built magnificent churches such as the one in San Javier, Concepción, San Ignacio de Velasco, Santa Ana, San Miguel , San Rafael and the Temple of San Jose built totally on stone.
These temples are known as the Jesuit Missions and they were built around the second half of the 17th Century.
This area with very large extensions of tropical land is the habitat of the Chiquitanos (natives) and also the reservoir for these true jewels, the Missions.
Every year there is a trip to the past when all the locals would interpret the religious music taught by the Jesuits on musical instruments they make themselves. This is the International Festival of Mestize Baroque Music.
The Missions have been declared UNESCO sites.

There are also various handcrafts still made in the area, such as the ones in local fibers with techniques inherited from their ancestors.
Nature and local communities are an additional attraction to the area.
